COVID-19KM CHALLENGE
The context
As a result of the covid-19 crisis, many people find themselves with little or no resources to feed their families. Food banks and other social grocery stores are striving to meet their needs. But it is not always enough! The usual social safety nets threaten to break down. It is very important that civil society act to help them.
The period is also very difficult for the agricultural world, which has recorded a significant drop in income and must also deal with the delicate issue of the food surplus, linked to the suspension of activities in the HORECA sector. Producers are also in desperate need of help to find new distribution channels and avoid to sacrifice their food in the face of pressing social needs. Here again, we can act effectively.
Operation Robin Food
Operation Robin Food* aims to provide soup to those most in need. The first objective is to produce and distribute at least 20,000 litres of soup to support the most vulnerable people in this time of crisis: the lonely, the homeless, poor families, etc. The second objective is to offer new opportunities to an agricultural sector in disarray.
* The Robin Food operation was initiated by the social enterprise "enVie" with the help of 4 valuable partners: EIT food, Rikolto, Riso VB and Depot Margot.
The Challenge
The Covid challenge consists of running or walking the distance of 19 kilometres in one week. It starts on Saturday, May 2 at 9 am and ends on Sunday, May 10 at 6 pm. Each participant is of course asked to take up this challenge close to home and in strict compliance with safety regulations. Performance is not taken into account. The number of sessions to reach the total of 19 kilometres is unlimited. Some will take up the challenge in one long outing, others will patiently add up the kilometres each day.
For an accurate distance measurement, you need to use the Strava application (free of charge) on your mobile phone (read the procedure below). The use of this application is not mandatory to support the cause. But it is a guarantee of rigour in its commitment and above all allows the organisation to validate the sporting challenge!
